To align with the February half term, we are pleased to launch of our People and Planet Toolkit. This comprehensive and engaging resource has provided meaningful activities that are both fun and educational, for children aged from 3 to 11 years old.

The toolkit will house a variety of activities, including:

  • creating art from natural resources
  • drawing and painting
  • recipe sheets
  • inspirational ideas on how children can understand and better look after the world, and
  • wellbeing focused activities

There are also a range of videos from music and drawing sessions, animal introductions, story time, journal writing and child focused exercises such as yoga.

We’ve all seen evidence of the pressures faced by parents/guardians, children and teachers currently, both first-hand and on social media. People are working hard to balance education, alongside a day job – a dual role that no one was truly prepared for, but one so many find themselves in. The challenge will continue at half term as many traditional trips and entertainment options that parents have come to rely on will not be available at this time. So, we started to ask ourselves:

  • How can we ease pressure on parents/guardians/carers?
  • How will people access meaningful activities to keep children interested and entertained, without them simply spending all day in front of a screen?
  • How can we get children and their families involved in things that will support their physical and emotional wellbeing?
  • How can we help people to develop an understanding and love for our natural world?

We knew we had to do something and that we had the resources to deliver something really wonderful, something that parents and children alike would want to be involved in – and that’s how the People and Planet Toolkit was formed.

It is important to us that this Toolkit affords working parents some respite, knowing that children are undertaking fun and interesting activities. In addition to this, the toolkit also provides a variety of activities that can be enjoyed together as a family.

All resources are freely available from Monday, 8th February and have been endorsed by the 'Flintshire Healthy Schools Scheme'.

The toolkit itself has been made possible thanks to funding provided by the Community Foundation Wales and FLVC and is connected to a longer-term commitment to delivering community focused, wellbeing materials that help to navigate health and wellbeing challenges arising from the Covid-19 pandemic.
